Did you know trees talk to each other? There are families of trees, too, and they all take care of each other. Even different kinds of trees decide to team up together and help each other survive. In a large forest, not all trees can catch the sun. So, they feed smaller family trees with sugar they create by sending it to their roots.

And speaking of roots: just underneath the ground the roots of trees connect with other roots of trees, so they are like one huge internet system. So people call it the “Wood Wide Web.” The scientific name for it is

Trees and plants share nutrients and minerals and water with each other.  Trees take care of each other in different seasons and in times of drought. They communicate with each other by warning if there are pests or diseases in the area. Some tree groves are even one giant tree connected together.  Maybe trees really do feel and appreciate a hug once in a while.
