How to build a compost bin at home, in your backyard.

Start your own compost!

Our FOOD is only as nutritious as the soil it is grown in!

We need only TWO THINGS to create a healthy compost!

CARBON + NITROGEN = 2 :1

Carbons are the energy source for your compost. It gets the breakdown started. If you don’t have enough of these then the compost just becomes a sticky rotten mess.

Nitrogens help to provide food for the bacteria to help break it down.
When these two elements come together, along with sunlight, water, and oxygen, a chemical process happens and the organic matter is broken down into soil.

FUN FACT: Your compost can reach temperatures from between 120 and 170 degrees fahrenheit. During the process, smell it and feel how warm it is getting.

It will take your compost around 4 weeks to break down into soil. Hopefully you will have some worm visitors to help the work go faster!

You can start a second compost while the first one is “cooking.” When the first one is done use the compost in your vegetable garden, on your trees or your flower garden. Your plants will be singing your praises!
