BEES ARE AT RISK OF BECOMING EXTINCT!
In the last few years bees have been dying out and scientists are very concerned. The phenomenon has actually been given the name COLONY COLLAPSE DISORDER. Scientists are trying to figure out why bees are dying. No one is exactly sure, but scientists are considering many options.
Bees may be getting sick because of the PESTICIDES that are used in farming. Pesticides are used to kill insects that might harm the farmers crop, but it is also killing the bees.
Many bees may be getting poor nutrition. It would be the same as eating a bunch of junk food. Many giant farms grow GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS which produce pollen that has very little nutrition.
Some people think it could be due to cell phones and the radiation that comes from them. Some studies have found that if you put a cell phone near a beehive the bees won’t return. Possibly because it interferes with their system of navigation.
Some researchers think it could be due to global warming and the weather changes that are happening.
Cities are expanding and taking away bee’s habitats.
It could be a combination of all these things. What we do know is that bees are in danger, and it is important.
